Vynnyky dry slope ski resort with 3 slopes is in the game
The first beginnings of dry slope skiing took place about 100 years ago. Real professional skiing on plastic mats has been practiced for 60 years. But where are the longest and largest dry slope ski resorts? The British journalist Patrick Thorne has compiled a comprehensive list. The question is, where does the new alpine dry slope ski resort Vynnyky in the Ukrainian city of Lviv rank? For this purpose, below is a compilation of the world's largest dry slope ski resorts and a classification of the new Vynnyky Ski Resort.
The longest alpine dry slope was built in Veduchi (Russia). It is 1,130m long and has been in operation since 2020. With 1,100m in length, Kagura Ski Resort follows near the Japanese city of Yusawa and operates only in summer and autumn. In Kopaoni (Serbia), the longest dry slope in Europe with 800m is in operation. Also 800m long is the alpine dry slope in Bears Town (South Korea). With 380m length Copenhill in Denmark is also one of the most famous alpine dry slopes, because it was built on a power plant. Many other dry slopes are exist in China, about which very little information is known.
However, it is known that the new alpine dry slope Vynnyky (height difference about 270m to 400m) in Lviv covers about 19,000m2 of dry slope area, making it one of the largest in the world.
There are 3 ski slopes, each 10-25m wide:
1st runway: 460m
2nd runway: 420m
3rd runway: 250m
The total straight length of the three slopes is 1,130m.
World novelty: first hybrid Alpine ski slope & tubing track
The slope 3 has a double function. It serves as an alpine ski slope for beginners and/or a slopestyle park with obstacles - in summer and in winter. Depending on demand, the entire area can also be used as a tubing track with 6 lanes in summer. To do this, simply pull up the mats marked in red during installation and slide the custom Tubtrax M2.2 side modules underneath and fasten them to the ground - and the summer tubing track is ready. It doesn't get any more flexible than this. The Tubtrax M2.2 modules can be removed just as quickly and there is once again a flat surface for skiing.
Vynnyky is the world's first ski resort with three ski runs on one mountain. A new Doppelmayr 4-seater chairlift (transport capacity 1800 pers. per hour) brings year-round skiers back to the top station at 400m. In addition, there are two conveyor belts, each 100m long, which also run in summer and winter operation. The snow lances are used for snowmaking in winter and for spraying the Slopetrax mats with water in summer. Through a drainage system, the water is recycled in a pumping station and transferred to the upstream reservoir. Now the purified water is used again for spraying the system.
After all, an area of 19,000 m2 is covered with mats. The path from the lift to the mountain restaurant is about 30 m long. The entire area in front of the restaurant is covered with mats. This allows skiers to strap on their skis directly and enter the two slopes - winter and summer. Ski in/ski out from the restaurant - unique.
Since two slopes start from the top station of the chairlift, we add 2x30m = 60m (see picture attached). Now there is piste 1 on the left and piste 2 on the right of the lift exit. We then have a total straight run of 1,130 + 60 = 1,190m. Add to this the very generous valley area where the three pistes lead to the chairlift entrance. In particular, the path from piste 3 to the lift has a further length of about 40m.
Then we would already be at 1,230m total length of the Mattenski slope. Thus the longest and most extensive mat ski slope, at least in the western world.
The official opening was planned for April 2022. Let's hope that the nonsensical Russian war will soon be over and Ukrainians can really enjoy this great year-round sports facility.
