Landing technique as if on snow.
The newly developed Skitrax NordicTrax mats were laid out in the run-out area of a ski jump and successfully tested by Finnish, Polish and Russian junior jumpers. The newly rebuilt ski jumping hill (K45) in Jämsänkoski, Finland, was chosen for this purpose, as it presented itself excellently with new mats in the take-off and run-out areas.
The jumpers' statements were euphoric: "1000 times better than grass or bark mulch", "like on snow", "it's really fun", "now I jump safer", "great, I glide upright to the end" and many more. The multiple Finnish youth champion Severi Tainio won on the hill and said in the interview: "I jumped like on snow - great". Also the present, experienced coaches were convinced: "This is the future", "Gives the jumpers a safe feeling", "Finally, also in summer the exact same motion sequence can be trained as in winter", "Unbelievable, riding upright with the flight stopping in the run-out as in summer", "The young jumpers were really looking forward to the run-out before the jump" and many more.
The long-fiber mats for the run-up combine perfectly with the NordicTrax mats and create an even glide transition of both systems for the ski jumper.
These innovative mats herald a significant step towards improved individual safety and a uniform motion sequence in all-year-round training. "The mats also reduce the material wear of the jumping skis by at least 50%," also said Juhani Vilkkilä, Finnish coach and head of the Valley Ski Club Jämsänkoski. Many national teams (e.g. Russia, Finland) have already signed up to train and test the new mats on this hill. The mats have been approved by the FIS and are certified for all summer ski jumps worldwide.
