Athletes Spectacle.
The best German freestylers met at the weekend at the Luegsteinsee in Oberaudorf. At the invitation of the Förderverein Freestyle and together with the WSV Oberaudorf, the German Ski Association and the Bavarian Ski Association, a lake spectacle of a special kind took place on the VIKING Freestyle water jump. An essential part of the Olympic discipline "Freestyle Mogul" is the execution of perfect jumps - and these are trained to perfection on the water jump during the summer. Already now, the members of the various federal, state and regional squads showed themselves in excellent shape.
Under the moderation of national coach Eno Thomas, the various squad jumpers showed their skills. The many spectators at the jump and around the Luegsteinsee were thrilled by the professionally jumped screw somersaults or stretch jumps with turns - because these elements are shown on snow on the jumps of the mogul slope in winter!
Skitrax managing director Wolfgang Schmidt welcomed the DSV alpine sports director Wolfgang Meier and Heli Herdt, responsible head of freestyle at the DSV. Also Wolfgang Weissmüller (BSV coordinator competitive sports) was impressed by the performances of the BSV squad jumpers. In this sportive frame Tatjana Mittermayer (silver medal Olympia 1988 in Calgary) was honored by the board of the sponsoring association Mario Löchl, for the longtime cooperation.
The News Schoolers of the WSV Oberaudorf were also represented. Now that freestyle slopestyle skiing is part of the Olympic program for Sotchi, more and more slope stylers are finding their way to the water jump in Oberaudorf. What seemed to be "impossible to jump" before, matures to "possible" after a few days of training until the double cork can be jumped perfectly. How this works was explained by Thomas Brandlhuber (Head of WSV Freestyle Department). Then breathtaking jumps were shown by Alex Scherlin and the young junior team of the WSV.
The many fans, club representatives and parents were entertained with sausages & steaks & drinks in wonderful summer weather. Intensive discussions about training measures and methods enriched the event. A merchandising booth of the Förderverein Freestyle sold cool Freestyle Team T-Shirts, the trampoline did not come to rest and on the beach volleyball court new opponents were always found. The "Open Day" presented itself as a successful day, which put the freestylers even more in the focus of the youth and the public.
